Better than average stairs maybe, but this simple set goes to show how a bit of ‘real’ background can be so much more appealing sometimes than plain studio backdrops.

It also means that for many La Femme Fatale experience can be achieved in your own home or your preferred location as well as our favourites or studio.

For the techies – this is a KISS set up, single Elinchrom RX unit with 100cm square soft box.

Now I know the shot below is nothing to do with stairs – but the towel rail is a ‘ladder’ type and to be honest, if you’ve got a rear end anywhere near this good it should be recorded for posterity. Pun absolutely intended!

Reschedule or go for it? Well its important to be able to adapt so go for it we did! First up was the local railway station – sunny but chilly, followed by a borrowed house and a neighbour’s garden. The neighbour, (bless you Sylv) was tending said garden when met with the request to borrow it for a few minutes. She thought we were joking when we said we’d have a scantily clad lady with us! But hey, all worked out fine, the day was not lost and Dolly was happy.

For the techies. Railway shots all with Elinchrom Ranger Quadra ringflash with diffuser on, used off camera as a main light. Indoor and garden shots used as conventional ringflash.

Well here we go with blog number one! The site isn’t fully done yet but hey, what the heck!

Here we have the lovely Danni in an example of how you need to be able to adapt and go with the flow. We were shooting her in her own house and varying the themes and locations when she mentioned there was a basement. We took a look and to most it was dark, dank and full of junk – but to a photographer it was a gold mine! The old chair, the boat propeller, fungus on the walls, a single hanging light bulb (Callan style for the oldies) and to top it off a port hole window.

Sure made for a fab set. We could have shot in that house for three days and not run out of ideas!

For the techies – one Elinchrom RX monoblock with a 44cm square metal diffuser with grid (the one’s you can’t buy anymore), white reflector and shot with deliberate accent on the dress.
